Welcome aboard
We all have a dream. A vision. Something that surpasses every other potential idea life throws our way, and sinks it's authentic teeth into every decision we make. My dream, and my mission, is to open an eco friendly Surf and Diving camp somewhere in the world. I have embarked upon the elusive location search, and so far have a couple of special places ear marked. My first scouting trip is imminent! It should see me bailing on a search mission in the next couple of months, and I would love to have you along to follow my adventure." Like every journey, there are a few non negotiable facets of sourcing the location and building the dream camp. It will be fully self sustainable, and have a positive environmental footprint. Essentially, I want to Incorporate the local villages and give back to them through the intents of increasing local tourism, employment, aiding in conservation projects and funding community projects. I also want to mention that I will be starting a crowdfunding project once I have purchased or leased the intended land. A percentage of the money raised will also be donated to the "waves for water" charity. You can read more about it here www.wavesforwater.org

Location Location Location

From the Pacific Ocean all the way down to the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and over to the Atlantic, there is a lot of ground to cover in this search. So how have I started my search for this dream island blessed with perfect waves and an untouched Eco system? Firstly, hours of scouring Google earth and Google maps (the latter updates it's satellite images more frequently, trust me!) effectively finding a needle in a hay stack. Don't get me wrong there are hundreds of islands out there with great surf, on their day, but mine must do better than that! Here are a couple of satellite images of spots that didn't make the cut.

To the untrained eye these might not look like much, but if you compare them to other famous breaks you can see resemblances in the shape of the White water. This can indicate the direction the wave breaks, it's length, how quick it might break and the direction the wind will need to be to create magic.

Once I find a potential spot I will use the Internet to research it until I have uncovered every shred of information available to me. Sometimes going as far as emailing the locals, airlines, shipping companies and yacht clubs. I also intend to trawl through social media and forum posts, chasing any info that will help the search. I also use Surfline.com to generate custom surf alerts and compare seasonal and historical data to narrow down my chances of finding the perfect location.
